Barcelona target Julian Alvarez endured a pretty miserable weekend with Atletico Madrid in La Liga. The striker was whistled by fans against Villarreal and cut a very lonely figure as he trudged straight down the tunnel at the end of the game after being told to stay away from the fans by his own club.
The Argentina international still wants a move to Barcelona, but Atletico keep on making it clear they will simply not sell him to the Catalan giants.
According to The Athletic, there’s now only one
route out of Atletico for Alvarez and it’s a path that he doesn’t want to take.
A new update claims “the only way” Alvarez will move is “if Arsenal make a €150 million offer.” The only problem is that it’s seen as “unlikely” that the Gunners would stump up that figure, while Alvarez really doesn’t want to head back to the Premier League.
La Liga’s transfer window closes on 1 September 2026, giving Alvarez just over a week to try and resolve his situation. As things stand, it still looks very unlikely that he will be granted his wish to join Barca.
