Bayern Munich has come under fire of late for its handling of injured players like Manuel Neuer, Alphonso Davies, and Jamal Musiala.
Those are just a few players, who have experienced setbacks during their respective injury recoveries. Konrad Laimer, Hiroki Itō, and Joshua Kimmich are also players, whose injuries have had some questionable handling.
While it is surely a mix of the players pushing to come back early and the club potentially not examining each player’s readiness for a return to play the proper
way, the amount of recurring injuries has raise some red flags for fans.
Head coach Vincent Kompany thinks the context is important when discussing each injury.
“You have to look at the context. Manuel Neuer was already fit for the Dortmund game. But we waited another week, even though he could have played,” Kompany said (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “Then, he was back in full training and we felt it was the right moment. We’ve always brought our players back a week later. The team has always managed things well when some players were out, so there’s no need to put unnecessary pressure on them. These aren’t serious, long-term injuries. It’s just frustrating for the guys because they always want to be involved.”
Kompany did his best to lessen the blow, but internally, the Bavarians needs to make some changes. Players like Davies and Musiala clearly came back too early from long-term injuries, while even minor issues like the calf problem for Neuer saw the captain suffer a setback.
Whatever the medical clearance process is in Bavaria these days, it needs to be improved or at least be more conservative.
