It finally happened.
John Cena gave up.
His retirement has been known for over a year now, and following a tour that allowed him to say goodbye all across the globe, Cena came to the Capital One Arena in Washington
D.C. for his last match at tonight’s (Sat., Dec. 13, 2025) Saturday Night’s Main Event special on Peacock to square up against GUNTHER. They put together a good story for it, too.
GUNTHER won a tournament for the right to be Cena’s final opponent, and then he promised, as a man who respects tradition and vows to protect the sanctity of pro wrestling, he would make the man who never gives up do just that.
And that’s what he did.
After an intense back-and-forth match that went far longer than anyone could have reasonably expected, GUNTHER, having taken all of Cena’s best shots time and time again, locked in the sleeper one last time. Cena could fight him off no longer.
He tapped.
His career is over.
