A veteran isn’t bound for the Seattle Seahawks’ running back room after all.
After Monday’s report that the Seattle Seahawks were set to sign Joe Mixon to their practice squad following a tryout and his physical with team, Tuesday brought a change of plans. Due to the results of Mixon’s physical, Seattle will not be signing the former Pro Bowler after all, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported.
Mixon’s potential return to the NFL had already caused some confusion. The 30-year-old missed the entire 2025 season with a mysterious foot injury that was never fully explained, and it even caused the tailback to tell some former teammates he was done playing. Then, the long-time Bengal teased a return on Saturday, followed by a Jay Glazer report on Sunday that he would be working out for the Seahawks.
Though Mixon won’t join Seattle’s roster after all, the team did make an addition to its depleted running back room on Monday, poaching Robert Henry Jr. off the Washington Commanders’ practice squad.
Without Mixon, the Seahawks will head into Week 5 with Emanuel Wilson, George Holani, Henry, and Velus Jones Jr. in the backfield. Jacardia Wright remains on the practice squad, while Zach Charbonnet has begun to practice in his return from injury, but will not suit up against the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday.
