Well we’ve finally arrived at trade deadline day. The entire major league calendar is wiped clean with no games today, so that everyone can focus on what will probably be a very wild day around the league. With the Tigers having already dealt Tarik Skubal, there isn’t really another obvious major deal set to go down unless one of the teams on the playoff bubble changes posture and decides to sell off. Will the Padres suddenly decide to cash in on Mason Miller? Would the Angels trade Zach Neto is someone
throws a huge offer at them? It doesn’t seem like anything that significant to the postseason picture is likely, but you never know.
What we seem more likely to get is an absolute blizzard of small deals as teams try to shore up minor weak points on their roster. Good relievers that are available will command high prices as usual. Teams will tinker with their rosters a bit, but the deals are likely to heavy in volume and light in magnitude.
Will a team cough up a good enough prospect for the Tigers to part with Casey Mize? Perhaps, but the Tigers still think they can get into the postseason and aren’t going to want to further weaken their pitching staff unless someone gives them a top 100 prospect or a player just outside that range that they love. Will the Tigers pursue a right-handed reliever? Maybe, but they’re not going to pull a better arm than Jackson Jobe or River Ryan. It may just not be worth bothering with unless they find an undervalued pitcher they can get for a pretty modest price in prospects.
