When the schedule first came out, the Tennessee Titans’ bye week looked like it was at the perfect time. Getting a week off close to the middle of the season is the best-case scenario. The problem now for the Titans is that Cam Ward and the offense are coming off the best game of the season. It would be really great to get back out there this week to see if they could keep that momentum going.
The Titans have a tough schedule coming off the bye with two games against the 5-2 Jacksonville Jaguars in three
weeks. Jacksonville looks poised to run away with the AFC South. The Titans probably can’t spoil the division title for the Jags, but it sure would be fun to hang a loss or two on them.
As we head into the bye week, let’s take a look at where the Titans rank in some key stats:
Offense
Yards per game: 272.5 (31st)
Passing yards per game: 173 (29th)
Rushing yards per game: 99.5 (23rd)
Points per game: 18 (28th)
You didn’t need this post to tell you the Titans’ offense has been bad this season, but as I mentioned above, they looked like they found something in the loss to the Cincinnati Bengals.
Defense
Yards per game: 382.4 (31st)
Passing yards per game: 258.3 (31st)
Rushing yards per game: 124.1 (22nd)
Points per game: 24.9 (19th)
The defense has also been bad, and that was with Jeffery Simmons. While I have hope the offense can turn the corner, I don’t have any hope for defensive improvement this season. They are going to need to upgrade a lot of spots on that side of the ball in the offseason.
