Michael Olise is not exactly lacking for confidence these days, and now Bayern Munich sporting director Max Eberl is adding some serious weight to the growing praise surrounding the French winger.
Eberl believes Olise deserves to be considered among the candidates for the Ballon d’Or, while going even further by placing him among the very best players in the world.
“For me, Michael Olise is also one of the candidates for the Ballon d’Or. He is one of the best players in the world,” Eberl told Abendzeitung’s
Maximilian Koch (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
That is quite the endorsement for a player who has continued to establish himself as one of the most important attacking pieces in Vincent Kompany’s Bayern Munich squad.
Olise has already shown that he can influence matches in a variety of ways. His creativity, technical ability and ability to operate between the lines have made him a constant problem for opposing defenses. His versatility has also allowed Kompany to give him more freedom in different attacking positions.
There is still plenty of season left, of course, and the Ballon d’Or conversation will depend on what Olise and Bayern Munich accomplish over the course of the campaign.
But Eberl clearly believes Olise belongs in that conversation. And considering the level of football the 24-year-old has been producing, Bayern Munich will certainly be hoping his sporting director’s prediction looks increasingly reasonable as the season progresses.
