Welcome to The Linc, the daily Philadelphia Eagles links roundup at Bleeding Green Nation!
Saquon Barkley’s lack of produciton isn’t even his fault; he’s looked pretty spry out there. He’s had big games against the Los Angeles Rams before, so, maybe he can deliver a big game on the ground here? The Eagles could certainy use that from him with DeVonta Smith out.
Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles news and links …
NFL Week 4 preview: Picks, predictions, schedule, betting odds, fantasy tips – ESPN
Fantasy
nugget: Eagles RB Saquon Barkley has been held under 10 fantasy points in three consecutive games for the first time in his career. He also has yet to surpass 15 rushing attempts in a game. The Rams’ defensive front ranks eighth in run stop win rate, so this could be another tough matchup for the Eagles’ offensive line and running game.
Rams’ keys to victory: Slow Saquon – Turf Show Times
Defensive Key: Slow Saquon Barkley. With the Philadelphia Eagles being without DeVonta Smith and Dallas Goedert, the Eagles offense will feature three skill players: Saquon Barkley, Dontayvion Wicks, and Makai Lemon. Barkley is clearly the more talented of the three. Expect the Eagles to feed Barkley as many touches as possible to limit Hurts from having to drop back all game long. While Jalen Hurts is a threat to run with his legs; slowing Barkley is the first key in the defense being able to get off the grass.
Eagles Film Preview: Scheme will have to help this team beat the Rams – BGN
The Rams have been a very good pass defense through three weeks, but injuries in the secondary could give the Eagles opportunities this Sunday. Of course, the Eagles have their own injury problems, particularly at receiver, so this matchup is difficult to pin down. I like parts of the Rams’ defense a lot. I also think the Eagles have to find ways to attack it, because I have no interest in watching this offense spend another afternoon hoping the defense will win the game for them. It won’t happen this week!
The Eagles can survive this tough stretch, as long as Nick Sirianni doesn’t let them fall apart – Inquirer
The good thing for Sirianni and his team this time is that the standard for success has to be different, has to be a little lower. Losses to the Rams and to the Jaguars wouldn’t necessarily be the worst possible outcomes for them. The nature of those losses — of how the Eagles play — would matter more. Put simply, even if they go down, the Eagles have to go down fighting. They can’t get blown out again. They have to remain competitive. They have to give everyone, themselves included, reason to believe they can turn things around once they get healthier, once all their defensive starters settle into Vic Fangio’s system, once Mannion has more opportunities to show whether he’s the budding genius the Eagles have billed him to be.
Will the Eagles’ defense ever make another big play? – NBCSP
It’s been 265 days since they intercepted a pass. It’s been 279 days since they recovered an opponent’s fumble or got two sacks in a game from their edge rushers. Big defensive plays have been few and far between for the Eagles so far this year, and they could sure use some Sunday afternoon when they host the Rams at the Linc. “Obviously, you want to get those big plays,” Cooper DeJean said. “But I think over time, those things will come. I mean, we’re three games into the season. I think once one comes, they’ll come in bunches.” The Eagles are the only NFL team without a takeaway so far and only the 15th team ever with no takeaways through three games. Only two of the first 14 made the playoffs – the 1979 Broncos and 2004 Rams. The Eagles are also tied for 28th – with the Rams – with just three sacks. Only the Cowboys (2), Giants (1) and Dolphins (0) have fewer.
Detroit Lions elevate DB for Panthers game – Pride Of Detroit
The Detroit Lions announced on Saturday that they have elevated safety Jalen Mills for their Sunday night game against the Carolina Panthers in Week 4. This is the second straight week Mills has been called up from the practice squad as the Lions navigate a bunch of injuries at safety. Brian Branch and Kerby Joseph remain on the physically unable to perform list, while Avonte Maddox and Thomas Harper landed on injured reserve this past week. The good news for the Lions is that Branch’s return seems imminent.
Patriots elevate veteran defensive backs Kindle Vildor, Mike Brown from practice squad for Week 4 – Pats Pulpit
Vildor, 29, picked off one pass during his preseason audition in Foxborough and joined the initial practice squad after being released as a vested vet at the NFL’s 53-man roster deadline. The 5-foot-11, 189-pound cornerback out of Georgia Southern originally entered the league with the Chicago Bears in the fifth round of the 2020 draft at No. 163 overall. Stops with the Tennessee Titans, Philadelphia Eagles, Detroit Lions and Tampa Bay Buccaneers were logged before signing a one-year deal with the Patriots as an unrestricted free agent in March. Standing 80 games, including 27 starts, into his career, Vildor has had a hand in 140 tackles, one sack, one forced fumble and two interceptions. His career spans 2,105 snaps on defense and 573 snaps on special teams.
Seahawks sign Velus Jones Jr off practice squad, elevate Trevon Diggs for first time – Field Gulls
Meanwhile, the Seahawks elevated veteran cornerback Trevon Diggs and [former Eagles] safety Maxen Hook from the practice squad. Diggs signed with Seattle during preseason and recorded an interception in his lone August appearance against the Kansas City Chiefs. Hook has his second elevation after playing only special teams last week, and could be a hedge against Ty Okada’s availability after Okada was upgraded to questionable with a hamstring injury.
Survey results: NY Giants fans think they’ll see J.J. McCarthy soon – Big Blue View
The trade has been controversial, with some fans approving strongly while others decrying the move for McCarthy. Overall, however, most Giants seem to think trading a 5th round pick for the former 10th overall pick is a good — but not great — move.
The one matchup the Cowboys have to win on Sunday – Blogging The Boys
Similar to the week one game against the New York Giants, the Cowboys offensive tackles could make or break this game for the Cowboys. The Texans run defense has been stout through three weeks, so the Cowboys passing offense will likely need to have a big-game in order to come out victorious in a monster in-state week four matchup.

The topic of the Commanders logo came up, following up a report on social media discussing Washington’s preference to add the spear and “W” to their permanent logo as early as 2027.

Thoughts from today’s Sixers scrimmage – Liberty Ballers
Did a little Sixers writing over in The Feed at Liberty Ballers!
LeBron looked awesome. No surprise here but it’s one thing to intellectually know something to be true and another to experience it for yourself in person. And I say this as a big Jordan > LeBron guy.
