In last week’s SB Nation Reacts survey, I asked you how many deals you thought Cubs President of Baseball Operations Jed Hoyer would make at the trade deadline.
The answer most people chose was “two.”
That turned out to be too few! Hoyer made four trades leading up to Monday’s deadline:
- Kevin Gausman acquired from the Blue Jays
- Braxton Garrett acquired from the Marlins
- Ryan Zeferjahn acquired from the Angels
- Clay Holmes and Tyrone Taylor acquired from the Mets
If you want to include the deal that sent Jameson Taillon to Toronto, that’s five trades made by Hoyer, who had a very busy week!
In this week’s survey, I’m asking you what grade you would give Hoyer for these deals.
For me, it’s a solid B. He acquired a quality starting pitcher (Gausman), another hurler who could be used to start or relieve (Holmes), a big strikeout reliever (Zeferjahn), a good backup outfielder (Taylor) and a project for 2027 (Garrett).
