Manchester City and Manchester United are prepared to compete for Sandro Tonali if Newcastle United open the door to a summer sale, according to talkSPORT’s Alex Crook.
Tonali, who joined Newcastle from AC Milan in 2023, is attracting interest from multiple Premier League rivals, and his agent has only fueled the rumors about his impending transfer away from Tyneside of late.
Crook outlined the situation in his report for talkSPORT.
“Tonali is one of several Newcastle players attracting interest from
Premier League rivals,” Crook wrote. “The Italian’s agent rather mischievously offered his client to Arsenal on transfer deadline day, although any suggestions he would be sold mid-season were immediately slapped down by Newcastle.”
Crook added that the situation could evolve in the summer, depending on how high Newcastle set the bar for his sale.
“The summer could be a different story and St James Park insiders fear they are heading for a repeat of last summer’s Alexander Isak saga,” Crook wrote. “Tonali’s preference is understood to be a return to Italy but Newcastle’s likely asking price of around £80m makes that a near impossibility.”
Crook went on to address the Manchester clubs’ interest directly, hinting at a summer saga pitting the two Mancunian sides against each other.
“Manchester United are among Tonali’s suitors as they plan an expensive midfield revamp,” Crook wrote. “I would not rule him out as a potential Rodri replacement at Manchester City either.”
