A glutton for punishment, Fabio Wardley has officially confirmed to Sky Sports that he has enacted his contractual rematch clause for a second fight against Daniel Dubois. Wardley just recently lost his world title to Dubois by late round stoppage in what appeared to be a very damaging fight that became increasingly difficult to watch — all after Wardley had twice dropped Dubois in the early going.
While many speculated as to what Wardley would do coming off such a defeat, he makes it known that he plans
to jump right back into the fire with Dubois for a fight expected to take place later this year.
“It was a fight for the ages, but I made some mistakes that I will rectify in the rematch. Congratulations to Daniel, but I’m coming for you… and my belt!”
Queensberry promoter Frank Warren would also confirm that the rematch clause has been activated and says both sides will work together to re-make what he believes will prove to be Fight of the Year.
Wardley, for the record, is currently recovering from what seems to be superficial injuries to his face but otherwise is said not to have required hospital treatment as a result of his fight with Dubois.
