It’s a busy time of the year for both Chelsea and yours truly, and we have yet another game in less than 24 hours. It’s our home opener for the Premier League season, with Brighton & Hove Albion coming to town for a Sunday afternoon kickabout.
Xabi Alonso has won his first two games in charge, away to Fulham and then at home to Luton Town in the League Cup, so hopefully we can keep the this early momentum going by shooing away the pesky Seagulls.
Despite our best efforts, the squad is still undergoing
some chop and change, most notably with Enzo Fernández, who’s not been ruled out officially but there is an “expectation” that he will sit out again, just like midweek and like last weekend. It’s unclear who’s driving that decision, but it’s not a great look for him either way.
Meanwhile, we’ve completed outgoing transfers for the likes of Liam Delap and Nicolas Jackson, so they no longer factor into the selection. Emmanuel Emegha was on the bench midweek so he should help fill that backup void.
Also back is Wesley Fofana, having served his two-match ban, and perhaps Moisés Caicedo as well, who’s set to be a gametime decision. Marco Palestra and Jordan Henderson remain out, though hopefully for not too much longer.
Choose wisely.
