The Wisconsin Badgers had only two draftees in the 2025 NFL Draft, as safety Hunter Wohler and offensive lineman Jack Nelson were both seventh-round selections back in May.
However, they did also have a couple of undrafted free agents who earned camp invites. Among that group was fellow offensive lineman Joe Huber, who was initially projected to get drafted by several analysts.
Huber ultimately signed with the Minnesota Vikings, and he’s been fighting for a 53-man roster spot with the cutdown deadline
coming at the end of the month.
Well, the right guard was PFF’s highest-graded undrafted free agent from the first week of the NFL preseason, earning a 94.7 grade. Huber had a stellar 93.7 run-blocking grade and a respectable 77.8 pass-blocking grade, giving up two pressures on 29 pass-blocking reps.
He was the main backup right guard to starter Will Fries, playing 55 snaps on the day, which was the most of any offensive lineman on the team.
Huber moved over to left guard this past weekend, earning the start and playing all 67 snaps there, while having another clean pass-blocking slate. He allowed zero pressures on 49 pass-blocking reps, earning him a 77.5 pass-blocking grade from PFF.
He did, however, have two penalties on the day, lowering his overall grade.
Nonetheless, Huber seems to be competing hard for a roster spot in Minnesota, looking to take a versatile interior role as an offensive lineman who can play either guard spot and potentially even center. We’ll see how he performs next weekend in the final preseason game ahead of the cutdown deadline.
