Newcastle United continues to assess attacking options ahead of the new Premier League season as Eddie Howe looks to strengthen his squad before the transfer window closes.
The Magpies have been linked with several forwards in recent weeks, but a fresh report suggests they are among a growing list of clubs tracking one of the better and most-coveted strikers seemingly available in the transfer market.
According to TEAMtalk’s Graeme Bailey, Newcastle is monitoring AS Monaco forward Folarin Balogun,
with several Premier League clubs expressing interest in the United States international.
While Bailey noted that Balogun has two years remaining on his Monaco contract, he also reported that no extension talks have taken place, opening the door to a potential summer move.
Monaco is understood to value the former Arsenal academy product at around €47 million (£40 million), while Transfermarkt has a €40 million market value attached to the American.
Bailey’s report says Sunderland has already held discussions with Balogun’s representatives, but the Black Cats face significant competition.
“We can reveal Newcastle United are also being kept informed of developments, while Nottingham Forest, Everton, Leeds United and Fulham have all registered interest and continue monitoring the situation closely,” Bailey wrote.
The main hurdle for Newcastle in Balogun’s chase, however, is far from overtaking Sunderland or any other of the aforementioned EPL rivals, but rather the interest in the player coming from elsewhere in Europe. Bailey mentions giants like Borussia Dortmund, Juventus and Atletico Madrid as interested clubs, although in a positive bit of news it looks like none of those organizations have Balogun as their No. 1 target.
Balogun is coming off an impressive campaign in France, scoring 19 goals for Monaco before adding three more in four appearances for the United States at the 2026 World Cup.
According to Bailey’s information, Monaco’s asking price is “not viewed as prohibitive” by interested Premier League clubs, which makes the transfer more likely for Newcastle.
