Last week, I asked you the following question:
Assuming Jacom Rodriguez is comparable at this point to Zach Thomas (unless you have a better/different comparison for him), what other comparisons would you make for the other players from the Miami Dolphins’ 2026 NFL Draft class? This comparison can be a former Dolphins player or any other NFL player, or, I guess, really anyone.
Below are some of your thougths and answers-
davidson11 does not sound positive at all about the current year’s draft class.
davidson11 still seems to need a hug.
Be lucky if there’s one probowler in this class. Caleb Douglass is Howard Twilley. Both 12th round WR talents. Could average 20 yards/game if they target him 8-10 times every game.
MiamiItaliano prefers to see Louis used mostly in the secondary and is super high on Bell.
Kyle Louis – Reshad Jones, he should be used more as a safety than linebacker as listed.
Chris Bell – Prime A.J. Brown, he’s that talented when healthy
PA phinphan has three comparisons to past good-to-great Miami Dolphins players.
I am hoping Coleman will be a faster version of OJ McDuffie and Kacmarek can block like Bruce Hardy with the sure hand catching of Fasano. It wouldn’t hurt if Proctor is the next Vernon Carey either.
StanleyDoyle1 says Johnson could compare well to Pat Surtain. I sure hope so!
Beyond Rodriguez-Thomas
1. WR Douglas and Devante Parker
2. TE Kacmarek and Bruce Hardy
3. LB/S Lewis and Glenn Blackwood
4. CB Johnson and Patrick Surtain
sdphinsfan has a slew of solid comparisons that I hope all come true.
I’m going to drop some names here…and keep in mind that this is all based on potential. To me, when I look at this class, there are comparisons you can make with past Dolphin players without too much effort…But some of these guys are clearly unique to Miami. But here goes
Proctor-Only real comp is Tunsil. Proctor’s size and athleticism are unique. At G, we’ve never had anybody like him. And if he stays at that position, your talking about a Larry Allen type potential player. But he’s got a ways to go to get there.
Johnson-He reminds me of what Byron Jones was supposed to be. Hopefully he has better luck and a little different mentality.
Rodriguez-Comparable to ZT of course. But Rodriquez has “big play” all over his game. Some guys just have that knack…AJ Duhe was one of those guys too. Also reminds me of Luke Kuechly…
Douglas-We’ve never really had a tall, down the field threat like this. So much of what he could end up being is going to be tied to how good the QB is with the deep ball.
Kacmarek-Fasano immediately comes to mind when I think about this guy.
Bell-I want to see how he emerges from his injury, but he’s a blend of a couple of different past WR’s to me. McDuffie, Chambers, and some real separation skills too.
Taaffe-Just think Blackwood…
Campbell-big stretch here but I’m going with Keith Sims. Campbell is already a pretty solid pass protector, and Sims excelled in that area. If he can get the run game down, he’s got a shot to be a real solid player on the interior.
Llewellyn-New version of a Kim Bokamper type player
CluelessNFLfan has Kacmarek compared to a more recent player.
Kacmarek and Durham Smythe
Phoenix6 will see what they look like on an NFL field before making any comparisons. Fair!
Most players for me, I have to see a player on the NFL field & in action to make a comparison… it’s a reminder of another (past) player really.
Would love if Jacob became as good as Zach. Is he that gifted? Have to wait for it.
JUK brought up a name I have not thought about in a very long time, Ferrell Edmunds.
A few comparisons that immediately come to mind:
Rodriguez – Thomas and Brooks are the lazy comparisons because they are all Texas Tech alumni, but his athletic profile is actually most similar to Jerome Baker. If anything baker was even more athletic but the key difference to me is Rodriguez is considerably stronger and more physical. If he can combine bakers athleticism with a bit of the processing and physicality of Brooks and Thomas you would have one hell of a player
Kacmarek – this is easy. He’s a more polished coming out of college version of Julian Hill with higher upside. If he can come in and play at Hill in 2025 level (ie without the 3 year build to from terrible to that level) that’s a good outcome for a 3rd round pick. If he can develop as a receiver his ceiling becomes higher.
Douglas – a less polished coming out of college version of Chambers. He was a vertical Z guy, definitely stronger than Douglas, but that’s what you want to develop into.
Coleman – the easiest one of all because his comp is the guy he needs to unseat to get playing time. Small, shifty rather than elite speed, slot receiver with return skills. That’s Malik Washington
Traore – I’m going to say Ferrell Edmunds. Athletic skills pop off the charts. Lots of development required
Well, that’s our comments for this evening. Some great comparisons for a lot of our draft picks, but like Phoenix6 pointed out, it’s hard to compare until you see them actually play at the NFL level. As with all of our Phinsider Question Of the Day posts, I would like to thank each of you who took the time to participate by answering the QOTD.
