The Washington Commanders are 2-4-1 and a win over the lowly Eagles moved the needle a little on this odd season…in both ways. Most Power Rankers moved Washington up after Jayden Daniels’ first win in over a year, but the stink of a tank that’s surrounding the Eagles actually lowered the Commanders rankings in the NFL.com rankings. Every other ranking stayed the same or improved.
The NFC East is still the worst division in the NFL with the New York Giants in the lead in Week 9. This week’s results
put the Washington Commanders within two games of the division lead with a rematch against the Giants set for Thursday Night Football next week. The win over the Eagles kept Washington alive in the division, with Philly getting kicked to the basement of the division.
The Power Rankers are higher on the Washington Commanders after getting their second win of the season, but there’s only so much you can rise after a 17-point win over a team that’s given up on the season. The Rams are coming to town on Sunday, and this is a “filter game”. The Rams need a win to contend in the NFC West, and the Commanders need a win to maintain any hope for this season before next week’s trade deadline.

It’s hard to believe that Jayden Daniels just won his first game of the year. I know he was out for a while, but it still feels like he probably should have won a game by now. However, that apparently hadn’t happened. The win over Philadelphia was Washington’s first victory since Week 3 against Seattle, which feels like a million years ago. Last week: 19

Despite their multitudinous mistakes this season, no team has turned the ball over fewer times (3) − which is exactly why the Commanders (still) have a legit shot to win the NFC East. Last week: 21

At this point in the race, Washington is my favorite to wind up winning the NFC East. Last night, the breadcrumbs shown between Jayden Daniels and Antonio Williams leads me to believe there’s just enough of a spark left in this offense to generate a run. Last week: 27

Biggest need: Receiver help
Like everyone else in the NFC South and NFC East, other than the Eagles, the Commanders should feel like they have a shot to be division champions. The Commanders are flawed, without question, but sit just two games behind the Giants in the division. It’s not like New York is a lock to run away with it.
The biggest problem for the Commanders is the loss of receiver Terry McLaurin for the season. It leaves them thin at receiver, and the good news is there are a lot of veterans available at the deadline at various price points. The Commanders should be interested. They also should be interested in improving a secondary that ranks 27th in passing yards allowed. Last week: 24

Washington ended its long winless stretch by overcoming an early 10-0 deficit and beating Philadelphia 27-10. Jayden Daniels managed the offense, and the defensive front sacked Tanner McKee five times. One win does not solve the season, but beating a division rival gives the Commanders something to build around. Last week: 27

The Commanders are going through a cruel twist with Jayden Daniels healthy but key pieces such as Terry McLaurin, Jacory Croskey-Merritt and Laremy Tunsil all on the shelf. The good news is Dan Quinn’s defense is playing well to give him a short reprieve. Last week: 29
NFL Spin Zone (Scataglia)
You get the sense that the Washington Commanders could end up making a huge coaching move if they don’t beat the Eagles on Sunday Night Football. Ever since that breakout season in 2024, things have fallen off the rails for Washington, as they have won just six regular season games since the start of the 2025 season, and QB Jayden Daniels has struggled to stay healthy.
With that said, Washington getting within one game of the Super Bowl two years ago could mean that more success is on the horizon if the necessary change is made. A non-playoff team trending toward making major changes, Washington should be able to beat Philly on SNF this week.
Update: Washington beat Philadelphia on Sunday Night Football in a game they should have won, so I am not sure this really changes things big-picture wise. The Commanders are still an overall bad football team with way more questions than answers. Last week: 29
Fansided (La Canfora)
They showed some fight and gumption amid more upheaval on their defense and bringing in new coaches. And it actually worked. Yeah, it was against an Eagles backup, but there was cohesion and connection sorely lacking all season on that side of the ball. Jayden Daniels is not nearly as aggressive as we have seen in the past, however. Last week: 30

Sunday’s 81 yards were Treylon Burks’ most since the sixth game of his career back in 2022. He’s already set a career high in touchdowns (2), and he has his most yards in a season since that rookie campaign. Last week: 25

Best in-season trade acquisition ever: WR Calvin Muhammad in 1984
This really is based on one season, as Muhammad played only two years for Washington. The franchise needed help after Art Monk was injured and traded a fourth-round pick to Oakland for the speedy Muhammad. In his 10 games with Washington in 1984, Muhammad caught 42 passes for 729 yards and four touchdowns. He was a key reason why, even without Monk, Washington’s offense remained among the best in the NFL, ranking third in points and ninth in yards. A year later, with a healthy receiving group, Muhammad caught only nine passes and was released before the 1986 season. — John Keim Last week: 29

Reality check: Jayden Daniels is getting beat up
The Commanders quarterback took a big hit from Nolan Smith on Sunday night that just added to what already has been a black-and-blue season. Daniels has only rushed for 33 yards (all on scrambles) in the last two weeks. If he’s not dynamic on the ground, he’s not the player Washington thought he was as a rookie, but that style of play is taking a toll. Last week: 27

Super Bowl odds: +12000 (22nd)
The Commanders scored 27 unanswered points to beat a division rival on Sunday night, and ordinarily that would be cause for celebration. But the team they beat is the ghost of the Philadelphia Eagles, and it’s not like the Commanders needed much of an effort to do it. It certainly was a much-needed win for Dan Quinn, who miraculously managed to survive the bye week. He’ll need a lot more of those and a lot more from star QB Jayden Daniels, however, to keep his job after the season. And there are too many injuries and holes in the Commanders’ lineup to expect that.
Stat To Know: Washington’s win over Philadelphia on Sunday was Jayden Daniels’ first win as the Commanders’ starter since Oct. 5, 2025. Last week: 27

Jayden Daniels passed a big test against a divisional opponent in free fall. Washington still, technically, is alive in the disgusting NFC East race. Last week: 26
Sharp Football Analysis (Summerlin)
The Commanders got a much-needed win on Sunday night, beating the Eagles 27-10 to move to 2-4-1. The level of competition was not great, but it was promising to see the defense sack Tanner McKee 5 times while holding Philly’s offense to just 3.9 yards per play. They face a much tougher test this week with the Rams coming to town. That game should offer a better view of where the Commanders stand after their Week 7 bye. Last week: 26
Bleacher Report
The Washington Commanders got out of the NFC East basement with Sunday night’s win over the Philadelphia Eagles. At 2-4-1, the Commanders still have a lot of ground to make up. However, they’ve found reasons for hope over the last few weeks.
Despite losing receiver Terry McLaurin to a season-ending injury in Week 6, Washington seemed to find some fight in its close loss to the San Francisco 49ers. They regained that intensity after a slow start on Sunday and rattled off 27 unanswered points to get win No. 2.
Washington can now think about climbing back into the playoff picture, but it’ll need to start stacking complete performances like Sunday’s. Next week will bring a good test, as the Commanders will host a talented, if underachieving, Los Angeles Rams team Last week: 27

The 2026-27 NFL season hasn’t always been kind to the Washington Commanders, but they caught a nice break on Sunday by taking on the Eagles. The Commanders thoroughly outperformed them on Sunday Night Football, picking up the 27-10 primetime victory to improve to 2-4-1 for the season.
Technically speaking, the Commanders still have a chance to catch up to first place in the NFC East. It’s pretty unlikely, but stranger things have happened. If their defense can build off of its Sunday night performance and keep that momentum rolling, they could have a shot in a pretty weak division. Last week: 26
Sportsnaut (Johnson)
Jayden Daniels did enough on Sunday Night Football, hitting Treylon Burks for a big play and sustaining drives to push the Washington Commanders to the victory. Wins have been few and far between for Washington (2-4-1) this season, so it will certainly take them any chance it gets. Another losing streak is right around the corner, however, as the Commanders roster has too many missing pieces and coaching issues to overcome the upcoming slate of opponents. Last week: 28

Washington recorded a much-needed win over the lowly Eagles on Sunday night in a display that wasn’t pretty but counted the same as any other victory. It’s nice to see Treylon Burks find a role in this offense, and it’s good to watch Jayden Daniels pilot the unit effectively. It also didn’t tell me all that much about where this team stands at 2-4-1. Last week: 24
The Score
Improve the trenches: The Commanders should be deadline sellers, but GM Adam Peters and coach Dan Quinn are on the hot seat and can only save their own jobs by improving the team. The offensive and defensive lines have been a mess, so that’s a good place to start looking for upgrades. Last week: 26
Clutch Sports (Johrendt)
A 17-point win for the Commanders was the result of two bad teams coming together and seeing which was less bad. For Washington, touchdowns from Rachaad White and Stefon Diggs, coupled with four field goals from rookie kicker Drew Stevens, were enough to earn their second win on the year. However, there are still plenty of issues to fix in Washington, as their Week 8 win is not really a sign of things permanently changing for the better. Last week: 28
Essentially Sports (Hubbard)
Washington got a much needed win over the Eagles, but it really wasn’t that impressive. The current Eagles team is tanking as hard as possible, but still, they looked good. Last week: 29

The Commanders showed life Sunday night against their divisional rival Eagles. At 2-4-1, the division is not out of the question, and with Jaden Daniels back, they may be a sneaky team entering the second half of the year. Last week: 31

Washington beat up a hapless Eagles team led by Tanner McKee. Jayden Daniels completed just 16 passes in the 27-10 victory. Dan Quinn has the defense playing well, but the offense is still a work in progress. Last week: 27
