Barcelona defender Jules Kounde is relishing the chance to pick up a first trophy of the 2025-26 season as Hansi Flick’s side prepare to take on Athletic Club in the Super Cup.
The two sides meet in Saudi
Arabia on Wednesday in the semi-finals of the competition, with Kounde highlighting how victory in the competition can provide the team with a welcome mid-season boost.
“The chance to win a title in January is a big deal… I think since I arrived at the club, every time we’ve won it, things have gone well for us afterward, and it gives us a boost,” he told Barca One.
Kounde also spoke about the win over Espanyol and admits improvements are needed.
“I think the team showed strong character, because it’s true that we struggled; we allowed chances to the opponent, but we didn’t give up, we always strive to win the matches,” he added.
“In the last 10 or 15 minutes, we managed to score those goals, and in the end, sometimes that’s what it takes.
“We realize that there are a lot of things that need to be improved because we didn’t want to see Joan García having to work too much!“
