Even though an ankle issue forced the New England Patriots to list him as questionable heading into the weekend, left tackle Will Campbell has been cleared for the season opener against the Las Vegas Raiders. The first-round rookie, who first popped up on the injury report on Thursday, is not among the seven players declared inactive for the contest.
With Campbell in the fold, the Patriots will have their top offensive line available against Maxx Crosby and company. This means that the lineup should
look as follows: besides Campbell at left tackle, the Patriots will also field fellow rookie Jared Wilson at left guard, Garrett Bradbury at center, Mike Onwenu at right guard, and Morgan Moses at right tackle.
Also active as backup options are tackles Marcus Bryant and Vederian Lowe as well as guard/center hybrid Ben Brown. The only O-lineman ruled out was Caedan Wallace, who has been designated as a healthy scratch.
The rest of the Patriots’ inactives look as follows:
Patriots inactives
- CB Christian Gonzalez
- CB Charles Woods
- OL Caedan Wallace
- ED Anfernee Jennings
- WR Efton Chism III
- DT Eric Gregory
- QB Tommy DeVito (emergency QB)
The Patriots deactivated a total of seven players for Sunday’s game. Two of them, cornerbacks Christian Gonzalez and Charles Woods, were already ruled out due to respective hamstring and groin injuries.
Joining them on the inactives list were the aforementioned Caedan Wallace as well as fellow healthy scratches Anfernee Jennings, Efton Chism, Eric Gregory and Tommy DeVito. The latter will dress for the game as the emergency quarterback, but will only be allowed to enter in case both Drake Maye and backup Joshua Dobbs become unavailable.
Overall, the list contains no true surprises.
Raiders inactives
- S Tristin McCollum
- RB Raheem Mostert
- LB Brennan Jackson
- OT Charles Grant
- OL Caleb Rogers
- DT J.J. Pegues
- DT Leki Fotu
The Raiders were as healthy as can be entering the weekend, meaning that none of their inactives were due to an injury. The most notable name might be Raheem Mostert, who initially projected as a top backup at running back.
Kickoff between the Patriots and Raiders at Gillette Stadium is set for 1 p.m.
