Welcome to Midnight Mania!
Let’s start the night off by taking a look back over the three biggest stories of Friday, Jan. 9, 2025.
- Heavyweight heartbreak? UFC power couple Alex Pereira and Tracy Cortez ‘break up’ after New Year’s fling: I’d like to give these two a shoutout for giving us something to talk about during this extended UFC absence.
- UFC Hall of Famer BJ Penn no-shows court-ordered mental health exam: Please get well, BJ.
- Dana White confirms Arman Tsarukyan headbutt ‘100%’ influenced title shot snub: I believe that Paddy Pimblett politics are the greater factor, but Tsarukyan has also proven himself a hothead that cannot be fully trusted.
Insomnia
One of my favorite clips in recent memory. There’s so much to absorb here.
I particularly love the back kick off the fence, and the fact that one of the “influencers” is hilariously more inept than his already weak sauce peers — you’ll quickly realize which one I’m referring to. This is high art; no notes!
A look into Luke Rockhold’s preparation for his RAF wrestling match vs. Colby Covington TOMORROW!
Welterweight banger alert! Chidi Njokuani is the much better technical fighter, but I’m always a little wary of his durability and gas tank down at 170 pounds.
Chase DeMoor is possibly ducking Darren Till OR fighting somebody else for a bigger bag. As much as I would love to see a Till demolition job, I can’t blame DeMoor for trying to get paid. It’s not like he’s a real boxer!
Tyson Fury is getting in shape sparring and hitting mitts in Thailand.
I would genuinely love to see Daniel Cormier vs. Jon Jones on the RAF mats.
Slips, rips, and KO clips
An absolute blitz! The strength and power of a fresh fighter filled with nervous energy can be a scary thing.
There’s a time and a place for keeping your hands low. This isn’t it!
Honestly, the referee could’ve taken the night off and just let them scrap. This was more street fight than kickboxing match!
Random Land
A historically wet winter for California!
Midnight Music: Alt. rock, 1994
Sleep well Maniacs! More martial arts madness is always on the way.
