Stephen Fulton sits down for an interview with Marcos Villegas of Fight Hub TV to discuss a number of topics including his upcoming title fight against O’Shaquie Foster, Canelo vs Crawford, and his future in the sport. Check out some excerpts of what he had to say down below!
Fulton on moving up to face Foster
“The only thing I have added is more strength training, bigger sparring partners, and stuff like that. I feel good. I always been a big guy, even when I was fighting at 126, 122, I was always walking around in my 140s, 147, close
to 150. So now that I’ve got older I only got bigger.”
On if he views his fight with Foster as an even matchup
“I really don’t know. I haven’t really tuned-in all the way to him. I’ve watched little things but I haven’t really tuned-in all the way to him. From what I hear and what I see from my trainers it’s not going to be a hard fight, though.
“It’s his style. I know his style, I fought his style plenty of times. Like, I can fight that style. If I wanted to fight the way he fight, I can do that. So it’s an easy style when you are talented. So it is what it is. We’ll see how he comes October 25th and just make the adjustments off of that.”
On how he expects the fight to look in the ring
“Just to make the adjustments because I don’t know how he’s going to approach this fight, but he continuously says I’m small so…They can play with that small word all they want but that’s just them talking. It’s just something to say. I’m one of the most accomplished fighters that he’s about to face so it’s not really much anybody can really say.”
On Canelo vs Crawford
“I’ve always went with Crawford (for) this fight. It’s nothing against Canelo, he’s a hell of a fighter, I don’t know how he is as a person. I don’t know how neither of them are as a person but I like Crawford for challenging himself. Like, that’s the type of things that I do and I’ve done so I like anybody that’s willing to challenge themselves.
“I think if Crawford uses his boxing ability then it’ll be a better fight for him…I’m not sure (how Crawford handles the power), so that’s what makes the fight so interesting. Those questions that we have right there, that’s what makes the fight interesting and makes us all want to watch it…If Crawford wins it makes his resume 10x better.”
On one goal he feels he has to get before he ends his fighting career
“Get my rematch with Inoue.”
