The Pittsburgh Penguins heard you loud and clear.
Following the insane demand to witness Marc-Andre Fleury’s final appearance in a Penguins sweater after the team signed him to a professional tryout contract as he officially retires as a Penguin, the team on Tuesday released additional tickets so more fans could say their goodbyes to “The Flower.”
Ticket prices have, understandably, skyrocketed since the Penguins made the announcement last week, with some of the cheapest upper bowl resale tickets as of Tuesday afternoon selling for $180.
In contrast, the team’s preseason game just 24 hours prior against the Detroit Red Wings lists verified resale tickets for $23.
It’s no understatement to say this preseason game against the Columbus Blue Jackets may be the most-attended home game in what is shaping up to be another transitional year.
Fleury, 40, announced his retirement from the NHL at the conclusion of the 2024-25 season, but continued his playing career via a “farewell tour” of sorts with Sidney Crosby and Team Canada at the 2025 IIHF World Championship in May.
The Penguins’ No. 1 overall pick in the 2003 NHL Draft will now put a final bow on a Hockey Hall of Fame-worthy career with the team and in the city where he first called home.
Merci beaucoup, Marc-André.
