Back on April 14th, Jose Siri hit the Injured List with a fractured tibia. Now, almost five months later, the Mets activated Siri from the IL today, and Siri will play center field and bat ninth for the Mets in tonight’s game against the Phillies. In a corresponding move, Jared Young has been optioned back to Triple-A Syracuse.
Siri played just ten games for the Mets before injury, going one for twenty with four walks and four strikeouts. In his stead, the Mets have been playing Tyrone Taylor (who
is now on the IL himself), the deadline acquisition Cedric Mullins, and the out-of-position Jeff McNeil at center.
In his most recent stint on the major league roster, Young appeared in three games but only having one plate appearance, which led to a solo home run against the Reds over the weekend.
In further roster machinations news, Justin Garza, who was designated for assignment when Brandon Sproat was added to the 40-Man Roster, has cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Syracuse. To make room on the 40-Man for Siri, Wander Suero was DFA’d without having appeared in a major league game for the Mets.
