It’s no secret that late August and early September are slow times for the NBA. It’s also no secret that, if a topic is open for discussion about the Portland Trail Blazers, we’ve probably brought it up between the time Portland’s season ended in May and now.
Above all, though, we know that Blazer’s Edge Readers love debate and interesting subject to chew on.
That’s why, in addition to the normal coverage you expect from us—which will continue unabated, we’re going to give you some extra topics to talk
about over the next month. We’re introducing the Blazer’s Edge Best Things Ever Tournament. It’s a bracket of 64 completely random things, chosen for no particular reason other than people might like them. They’re not related to each other. (Let’s face it, every Best Movie or Best Song of the 80’s bracket has been done already.) They’re just…stuff!
In each post, we’re inviting you to vote for ONE of the two things offered, registering your pick in the comments section below. We’ll tally up the votes in each post and see what moves on to the second round. Just like March Madness, when all is said and done, we’ll have one Best Thing Ever for 2026. If it catches on, we’ll do another bracket next summer. For now, just enjoy the debate and conversation!
We’ll probably run two posts a day. Today both of them are in the upper part of the site cover. Other days, watch for them just below this.
This post introduces an epic battle between Star Trek and The Oregon Coast.
Star Trek, the famous space exploration sci-fi series started in the late 1960’s with Captain Kirk, Mr. Spock, and the crew of the Starship Enterprise. It’s been through half a dozen iterations and more than a dozen feature movies since, never seeming to die for long. It opened the imagination of generations as well as introducing terms like raising your shields and, “Beam Me Up, Scottie” to the popular lexicon.
The Oregon Coast is a bit of a regional pick, but this is a Trail Blazers site, after all. And anybody who has visited knows that there’s no stretch of beaches and wilderness in the world quite like it. Forests, mountains, sunsets, quaint shops and restaurants…it’s got everything you need to relax and stand in awe at the same time.
So what will it be, the Coast or Star Trek? Register your vote in the comments section below and we’ll see who goes on to Round 2!
