Michigan’s Justice Haynes has been one of the best running backs in the nation this season, but on Saturday night against USC, the elite back left the game in the first half with an injury. Haynes would return to the sideline in the second half but wouldn’t get back in the game. Haynes finished the game with 10 carries for 51 yards, the only game this season that he’s been held to under 100 yards.
After Michigan’s 31-13 loss to USC, Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore talked about Haynes’ injury and
what it means for him moving forward.
“He’ll be okay,“ Moore said. “We’ll just see how he goes as we go through the week. Just something on his side. He came back out. Was working through it. Probably could have went. We’re extra cautious on our student-athletes when anything happens to them, so we’re going to make sure they’re okay.”
With Haynes out of the game, Jordan Marshall had a respectable 68 yards on 14 carries. Haynes, however, has been otherworldly this year, rushing for 654 yards and eight touchdowns with an incredible 7.7 yards per carry. Michigan’s a better offense with Haynes healthy and ready to roll, and it sounds like there’s a good chance he’ll be able to play next week against 5-1 Washington at Michigan Stadium.
