Raw airs tonight (Sept. 14) with a live show emanating from Arena CDMX in Mexico City, Mexico. This is the seventh episode of Raw during the ten week build to Money in the Bank, which takes place on October 10.
Roman Reigns will lose the world title in Mexico unless he busts out this new move
WWE ran a tournament last month to see which luchador gets to lose against World Heavyweight Champion Roman Reigns on Raw in Mexico City. Penta beat his lucha brother Rey Fenix in the final match of the tourney, so now he gets his shot at The OTC tonight.
This is by far the biggest match of
Penta’s WWE career, and it’s a fascinating one for Roman as well, if for no other reason than to see how the fans in Mexico City respond to him. Will Reigns receive John Cena at One Night Stand 2006 levels of heat? Probably not, but the Tribal Chief is definitely in enemy territory tonight as the live fans cheer on their hero to beat his ass and win the world title. The appetite for a huge title change may be heightened after the fans received similar results over the last few nights with El Grande Americano winning the AAA mega championship from Dominik Mysterio and Sami Zayn winning the WWE championship from CM Punk.
Another reason why this is an intriguing match for Roman is due to his styles clash with Penta. The challenger will have to get several near falls to really tease that he is on the verge of becoming the new champion. Does that mean Roman Reigns is actually going to take a Mexican Destroyer? Or will the Tribal Chief have to unveil his own Samoan Destroyer if that’s what it takes to turn the tide in his favor for good?

The rest of the card
After Bron Breakker qualified for the Money in the Bank ladder match with a victory last week, this week’s men’s qualifier is Je’Von Evans vs. Big Cass vs. World Tag Team Champion Austin Theory. Je’Von seems like a no-brainer choice to be in the ladder match, so maybe he won’t fall victim to Big Cass’ big boot for once. Will Otis and Tozawa interfere to mess things up for Theory?
Tonight’s women’s MITB qualifying match is Lola Vice vs. NXT Women’s Champion Kelani Jordan vs. Women’s Intercontinental Champion Raquel Rodriguez. Wouldn’t it be strange if Lola loses her debut match on Raw after several weeks hyping up her arrival? But wouldn’t it be even stranger for two reigning champions to lose against her in the same match?
Intercontinental Champion Chad Gable defends his title tonight against Dragon Lee. Babyface Gable is really good at beating all the babyface luchadors in WWE, but maybe he’ll slip up this time in his first match in Mexico since losing the El Grande Americano mask. Regardless of who wins, will Ethan Page show up afterwards to pick the bones?
Finally, new Women’s World Champion Stephanie Vaquer will make an appearance on tonight’s show. How long will Becky Lynch wait until she interrupts demanding the next title shot? Can former champion Liv Morgan find a way to go over GM Adam Pearce and get her surprise title loss overturned, given how she was screwed over by a crooked referee who isn’t really a referee?
Other stuff to keep an eye on
– Bronson Reed and World Tag Team Champion Bron Breakker obliterated Oba Femi with spears and Tsunami splashes last week, and then things got weird when Femi shoved Bronson’s foot off of him as The Vision posed at the end of the segment. Will that incident be addressed during tonight’s promos? Will Femi actually be off TV this time to sell the extreme beating he suffered two nights in a row? Did Paul Heyman really imply that Breakker needs to murder Femi in order to truly secure his spot as the future of WWE?
– LA Knight told GM Adam Pearce that no matter who wins between Roman Reigns and Penta, he wants the next world title shot. Will a title match of Reigns vs. Knight be made official for Money in the Bank after The OTC retains his belt tonight?
– Royce Keys was a man on a mission last week when he set The Usos’ car on fire. Can The Usos and Jacob Fatu get back on the same strategic page, or will they continue to fall victim to 946’s ambushes and traps? Will Solo Sikoa heed LA Knight’s advice to be patient in seeking revenge, or does Solo plan to attack 946 tonight?
– Seth Rollins and IYO SKY both returned to action on WWE house shows in South America. Will one or both stars be back on Raw tonight to officially enter the mix for the Money in the Bank ladder match qualifiers?
– In those house show matches, Seth joined forces with Solo Sikoa and LA Knight to fight Jacob Fatu and The Usos. The babyfaces all danced together while mocking Jey’s tendency to run back his entrance and say YEET. Does this mean Rollins and Knight can finally co-exist on Raw, or are surprise title changes the only thing that count in kayfabe when it comes to house shows? Will Seth now stay out of The Bloodline’s war on Raw after seemingly making peace with Roman Reigns at SummerSlam?
– How will Dominik Mysterio react after losing the AAA mega championship to El Grande Americano at Triplemania 34? Is it time for the Judgment Day to take out their frustration on Rey Mysterio?
– Bayley returned to Raw last week to screw over Lyra Valkyria in her Money in the Bank qualifying match. Will Bayley get some promo time to say what’s on her mind before she gets Lyra in the ring for a rematch?
– Could Damian Priest be moving over to the Raw roster soon after turning heel on R-Truth in Mexico City?
– CJ Perry says Rusev is cleared to return, so I guess now it’s just a matter of WWE Creative finding something for him to do.
– Who the f*** is the mystery caller talking to Paul Heyman? Could it be someone we haven’t seen in a long time like Drew McIntyre? What about Brock Lesnar or The Rock?
