Three Keys
1) Slow down Jahmyr Gibbs – The Vikings really managed to limit Gibbs in their two games last season, and as a result, the rest of the Detroit offense was a bit limited. Gibbs is one of the best running backs in the league, and if they can slow him down again and keep the Lions behind the chains on later downs, it will help the Vikings’ defense even more against a Detroit offense that can put up points in bunches. If the Vikings have to pick their poison, slowing down Gibbs should be the priority.
2) For the love of God, do anything on offense – It seems like we say this every week, but that’s only because this offense just can’t seem to get anything figured out. Through the first seven weeks of the season, the Lions’ defense has allowed more passing yards and more passing touchdowns than any defense in football. Is it going to make any difference for a Vikings’ pass offense that just can’t seem to move the ball through the air? It better. . .because if they can’t do it against this defense, it’s hard to figure out when they’re going to.
3) Make Dan Campbell pay – We know that Dan Campbell likes to gamble on fourth downs. He made a call last week that should have cost his team a game, but the Packers couldn’t take advantage. If Campbell gets too aggressive again this week, it’s incumbent upon the Vikings to stand up on those fourth-down plays and make the Lions pay for getting too aggressive. Even if the Vikings don’t make anything out of it, taking the ball away and making the Lions start over is a big deal and can shift momentum in a big way.
