In ACC news, Ryan Odom becomes the second ACC coach to have his contract extended this summer.
We don’t think Virginia should have much to worry about – Odom has deep ties to the program, since his father, Dave, was a Terry Holland assistant from 1982-1989. The younger Odom was even a ballboy.
Nonetheless, not every coach starts his first season at a new job with 30 wins, so UVA is smart to lock him up.
This follows Miami smartly extending Jai Lucas before a school like Kentucky or Kansas can make a run
at him.
Speaking of new coaches, UNC’s Michael Malone says that it was Roy Williams who convinced him to take the job. He told CBS’s Jon Rothstein that he had actually turned UNC down three times before Williams convinced him to take it.
