Even though our Georgia Bulldogs are no longer playing football this season (sadly), several former Bulldogs will be gearing up for a run at a Super Bowl title. Every matchup has been set in both the AFC
and the NFC. Georgia will be looking to have representation in the big game for the 25th consecutive year.
The first matchup will take place in an unlikely city: Charlotte, North Carolina. The Los Angeles Rams, who are 12-5 and led by MVP candidate and former Dawg Matthew Stafford, will take a visit to Flair country (even though the Nature Boy is a die-hard Rams fan) to battle the 8-9 Carolina Panthers. Yes, you read that correctly: the 8-9 Panthers won the NFC South division and earned a spot in the playoffs by virtue of sucking the least out of the teams in their division. Stafford finished his regular season with over 4,700 yards and 46 touchdown passes. The old gunslinger will look to add another Super Bowl title to his collection en route to (hopefully) his first NFL MVP award.
Despite losing star defenders Micah Parsons and former Bulldog Devonte Wyatt for the season, the 9-7-1 Green Bay Packers will look to make a run at their fifth Super Bowl. Several former Dawgs are contributors on the Packers’ defense, namely Quay Walker and Javon Bullard. They will face off against their division rival, D’Andre Swift and the 11-6 Chicago Bears, who have been the surprise of the NFL thus far. Swift set career highs in rushing yards (1,087) and touchdowns (nine). He has become a reliable weapon for quarterback Caleb Williams and the offense.
Other matchups include the Philadelphia Eagles facing the San Francisco 49ers. The Philly Dawgs will look to win a second straight Super Bowl, and star linebacker Nakobe Dean will look to remain healthy for the duration of the postseason, unlike last year, when he suffered an injury that sidelined him for much of the Eagles’ run to the championship.
Over in the AFC, the game with the most intrigue this weekend will be the Jacksonville Jaguars hosting the Buffalo Bills, featuring James Cook. Cook finished the regular season with the most rushing yards in the NFL with 1,621 yards. He will look to be a major factor in helping the Bills finally reach and win the Super Bowl. They will have to contend with Travon Walker and a solid Jaguars’ defense. Though Walker has battled injuries this season, he has been playing well in the last few weeks and looks to be a major disruptor to offenses this postseason.
The road to Super Bowl 60 begins this weekend. Best of luck to the former Dawgs who will be competing to hoist the Lombardi Trophy in Santa Clara, CA, in February!
