Herb Dean made a split-second call in the third round of the UFC Paris welterweight main card bout between Axel Sola and Rhys McKee, and some fighters believe it may have been a bit too quick.
Sola was well on his way to beating McKee as the fight progressed in the final round, but after Sola landed a nasty body shot, McKee crumbled to the canvas in a defensive position trying to cover up. Sola continued to throw shots, and as McKee looked to grab a leg and, perhaps, scramble into a better position,
Dean saw enough and stopped the fight. Sola got a huge ovation from the hometown crowd at Accor Arena, while McKee protested the stoppage — as did color commentator Michael Bisping.
After the replay, both Bisping, and his co-color commentator Paul Felder, understood why Dean stopped it, but didn’t necessarily agree with it.
Once the bout was over, UFC fighters took to social media to give their thoughts. Check out some of their reactions below.
