Today, the Buffalo Bills and the Kansas City Chiefs are slated to meet for the tenth time this decade. Buffalo has won four of those contests, with all four of those victories coming in the regular season.
Kansas City has been victorious in five of the nine games, with four of those five victories coming in the playoffs.
While the marketing surrounding the game is all about the quarterbacks, as Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen are two of the league’s best, it’s so much more than that. It’s Buffalo trying to find their footing defensively against a surging Kansas City offense. It’s Buffalo’s offense trying to solve the blitz-heavy schemes they’ve seen in recent weeks, schemes that Chiefs defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo uses to perfection. It’s running back James Cook trying to continue his strong play against a Kansas City defense that has shown some weaknesses inside, but has also added reinforcements in old friend Mike Danna, who re-signed this week after asking for his release from the Cincinnati Bengals.
Can Buffalo’s defense keep a lid on a Kansas City passing attack that has all of its weapons back? Can the Bills’ offense find a rhythm just one week after trouncing the Carolina Panthers? Will the Chiefs force Buffalo into obvious passing downs, something that has been an issue of late for a Buffalo team not used to having issues on offense? We don’t yet know the answers, but we know that the games are always good when the Bills and Chiefs face off against one another.
