The line of delineation in the state of Florida has really started to take shape over the first month of the season. Miami has distanced themselves as the class of the state, and after Florida states lost
to Virginia sits at a clear number one in this week’s rankings Florida State had the most disappointing performance of week number four, losing on Friday night to Virginia 46 to 38. The game was marked by mistakes from the Seminoles, and they were unable to take advantage of a 21 to 14 lead as Virginia stormed not only the field, but back into contention in the ACC. Here’s how the state of Florida stacks up in week number five.
1. Miami 4-0 – The Miami Hurricanes enjoyed a bye week before they dive headfirst into an in-state ACC rivalry versus Florida State. The last time we saw Miami they dominated Florida 26 to 7. Miami’s passing game was not the best in that contest but should pick up against a Seminole secondary who struggled against UVA.

2. Florida State 3-1 – The Seminoles saw their undefeated season come to an end in Charlottesville, Virginia. Florida State had trouble containing Chandler Morris, most of the night, and the Cavaliers were able to garner a double overtime 46 to 38 victory. Tommy Castellanos had a miracle fourth down throw at the end of regulation to tie the game, but the Seminoles had a huge drop from deuce Robinson in double overtime that ultimately ended up being their undoing.
Next Game vs Miami Saturday.
3. USF 2-1 – The Bulls enjoyed a week off to get ready for conference play. USF currently sits 26th in the latest AP Paul, and his position to fight for a potential college football playoff berth if they can continue to win games. Byrum Brown has continued to be the straw that stirs the drink for USF, and they often will keep them in every game.
Next Game vs Charlotte Friday
4. UCF 3-1 – The Knights lost their first game of the season to Kansas State 34 to 20. Quarterback Tayven Jackson threw for 115 yards in defeat, as UCF lost for the first time in 16 games under head coach Scott Frost.
Next Game Saturday vs Kansas
5. Florida 1-3 – The Gators used a much-needed by week to lick their wounds after a 26-7 defeat at the hands of Miami. Quarterback DJ Lagway stated this week he feels like the offense is about to pop. Florida’s offense has been lackluster all season other than scoring big points against LIU in the opener. Since the first game, Florida has scored less than 20 points in each game.
Next Game vs Texas
6. FIU 2-2 – The Panthers enjoyed their first bye week of the season, while sitting at .500 on the year. Quarterback, Keyone Jones leads the way for the Panthers with two touchdown passes to go along 701 yards. FIU stays in this spot by virtue of their win over FAU earlier in the year.
Next Game @UCONN
7. FAU 1-3 – The Owls continue to be the worst team in the state of Florida, sitting at 1-3 on the year. They were routed 55 to 26 at the hands of the Memphis Tigers and feel like this will be their spot most of the season.
