Chelsea welcome Ajax Amsterdam to Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night for a game that will mark a milestone in club history: it will be our 200th Champions League match.
That history aside, there’s plenty
at stake in this third of eight league-phase encounters. In fact, it’s practically a must-win, certainly if we’re harboring any ambitions of finishing in the top-eight and thus getting a direct ticket to the quarterfinals. Among the five remaining after this, will be trips to Napoli and Bergamo (i.e. Atalanta), as well as a home game against Barcelona. Cannot afford to drop points outside of those games.
Our injury situation continues to do us no favors, though Moisés Caicedo was able to complete 45 minutes on Saturday and Pedro Neto looked his ever-energetic self despite missing training in the lead-up. Enzo Fernández and Wesley Fofana were held out as precaution over the weekend and could available in at least limited capacity.
João Pedro is suspended after his last-second red card against Benfica.
