The Pittsburgh Steelers have signed former Chicago bears cornerback Terell Smith off the Washington Commanders practice squad, per Nick Farabaugh of PennLive.
Smith joins fellow veteran Sean Murphy-Bunting as new signees that will be on the Steelers’ 53-man roster straight away, as the team quickly became very thin at the cornerback position following the trade of Joey Porter Jr and an ankle injury to Jamel Dean.
Smith was drafted in the fifth round of the 2023 NFL Draft by the Bears out of Minnesota.
He appeared in 26 games in two years with the Bears, intercepting one pass and breaking up 10 more. He was placed on IR by Chicago in August of 2025, which led to him missing the entire season. The Commanders signed him to their practice squad in early September after he was waived by Chicago.
