Missouri track & field rose to the occasion at the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa so far this week, highlighted by four championship winners and a slate of top-10 finishes.
Top Performances So Far
Utecht’s Heptathlon Achievements
Brianna Utecht delivered a strong all-around performance to finish fourth in the heptathlon with 5,462 points, marking the sixth-best result in Mizzou program history.
Utecht closed out the competition with a solid second day, highlighted by two top-three finishes. She placed third in the long jump
with a mark of 5.84 meters and followed that with another third-place finish in the javelin at 35.33 meters. In the final event, the 800 meters, she took sixth with a time of 2:23.34.
Her momentum carried over from an impressive opening day, where she recorded three third-place finishes. Utecht ran 13.95 in the 100-meter hurdles, earning a spot at No. 10 on Mizzou’s all-time list. She added a third-place finish in the shot put with a throw of 11.89 meters and clocked 24.92 in the 200 meters for another third-place result. She also placed sixth in the high jump.
Across both days, Utecht consistently placed near the top of the field, using a balanced performance in all seven events to secure her fourth-place overall finish.
Men’s 3,000-meter Steeplechase Victory
Elijah Limo soared to the finish line on Thursday, winning the overall race at the Drake Relays and claiming the fifth-best mark in Mizzou program history, at 8:47.51.
Joshua Allison came in closely behind, at third overall with his time of 8:57.79. Alongside them, freshman Andrew Hauser claimed 12th, at 9:25.44.
Leacock’s 400m Hurdles Success
Dillon Leacock reigned over the Drake Relays on Friday for the Tigers, winning the overall hurdles event, with an impressive time of 50.68. This victory was a huge accomplishment for Leacock, and another milestone of his career.
Wanjiku and Funck’s Championship 1,500m Races (Friday)
Monica Wanjiku shook the crowd with a first place finish in the women’s 1,500, with a time of 4:17.15. This result put her in the No.3 overall spot for Mizzou’s program record in this event.
Alongside her, Suzy Lecoutre took third overall with her time of 4:22.33. Rounding the women’s squad out was Morgan Yeomans in fourth with her new personal best time of 4:24.68. This brought all three Tigers in the top-five during the race.
The men did just as well, with Lasse Funck winning the overall race for the men, with a time of 3:43.97. Alongside him, Carter Spradling came in seventh with a time of 3:48.07. Rounding them all out, Finnian Russell claimed 10th overall in the race.
Other Notable Performances
Women and Men’s 1,500m (Thursday)
Kobi Walker delivered a strong performance on the track, earning a third-place finish with a time of 4:33.51. Although she did not surpass her personal best of 4:29.93, her performance was notable.
Meanwhile, Mirriam Chepkirui followed closely behind in fifth place, achieving a new personal best in the 1,500m with a time of 4:33.93.
As for the men, Ethan Hogan took fifth overall in the 1,500 meters, with a time of 3:58.53. Alongside him, River Hardman took tenth overall at 4:01.47.
Men and Women’s 5,000m
Tyler Freiner excelled on the course for the Tigers, finishing third overall in the race, with a time of 14:19.14. Behind him in fourth, was freshman Joseph Bariola, with his time of 14:31.87. Rounding it out for the men’s distance squad was Ryder James in ninth overall at 14:45.47.
The Barnard sisters ran the women’s 5,000m for the Tigers with solid results. Natalie Barnard finished sixth overall with her time of 17:36.63, while Elissa Barnard claimed eighth at 17:52.23.
Men’s 100m Dash
Robert Hines claimed a third place finish in the men’s 100m dash with a time of 10.37.
Women and Men’s 4×1,600 Fifth Place Result
The Tigers turned in a strong performance in the distance relays, with both squads finishing fifth in hard-fought races.
In the women’s 4×1,600-meter relay, Brianna Lee, Kobi Walker, Mirriam Chepkirui and Allison Newman secured fifth place overall in a competitive field.
On the men’s side, Joshua Allison, Freiner, James, and Limo matched that finish, also taking fifth in the 4×1,600.
Women’s 800m
Lee finished fifth overall for the Tigers, claiming a time of 2:11.93. Her personal best is 2:09.14, but this time was not far from it and still very solid.
Women’s Pole Vault
Anna Vedral took seventh overall in the women’s pole vault, with a mark of 3.78m. With tough competitors above her, Vedral had a solid performance.
Women’s Javelin Throw
The Tigers had two of their top seniors compete in the javelin, with Valentina Barrios Bornacelli finishing eighth overall with a best throw of 55.89 meters (183-4), while her teammate Skylar Ciccolini placed ninth with a mark of 55.80 meters (183-1).
Men’s Shot Put
Chase Crawford claimed a fifth place finish in the men’s shot put, with a throw of 17.12m.
Women’s Discus Throw Championship
Ames Burton took eighth place overall in the women’s discus throw, with a mark of 51.29 meters.

What’s Next
Mizzou is set for their final day of competition at the Drake Relays, with loads of events set for Saturday. Starting off for the Tigers will be the men’s hammer throw, featuring Garik Pozecki, and a few events later for the men’s hammer throw championships, star athlete Sam Innes.
Up next is the women’s javelin championships, with Morgan Cannon set to compete. Alongside that, will be the men’s distance medley race, featuring River Hardman, Lasse Funck, Leacock and Carter Spradling. After that will be the men’s 100m race with Hines set to run. Last but not least, the women’s hammer throw will have Petra Gombas and Reagan Kimrey set to compete.
With a lot of competitors on the line for the Tigers, it will be a thrilling final day at the Drake Relays, before heading back home to Columbia.
