In this day and age, it’s common to see players come and go in college sports. It’s becoming more common to see them go during midseason. It’s less common to see them leave before they’ve ever played a game.
That appears to be what has happened with Arizona women’s basketball freshman Ogheneruona ‘Miracle’ Akpotayobo. She is no longer listed on Arizona’s roster, although the program has not mentioned her departure and attempts to verify when she departed have not been successful. Her roster page still
turns up in search engines, but attempts to navigate to it return a 404 error on Arizona’s website. Her personal Instagram and X accounts also appear to have been disabled.
The native of Delta State, Nigeria was well-traveled. She attended several high schools in several different states after coming to the U.S. She appeared on the rosters of Life Prep Academy in Wichita, Kan., Christian Pointe Christian Academy in Kissimmee, Fla., DeSoto High School in DeSoto, Tex., and White High School in Dallas over the course of her high school career.
Once it came time for college, Akpotayobo committed to Auburn. When the Tigers parted ways with their head coach after last season, she decommitted. The 6-foot-3 forward landed in Tucson after new head coach Becky Burke was hired.
Fellow Nigeria forward Blessing “Adde” Adebanjo was added to the roster last week, several days after the beginning of fall classes. With her addition and Akpotayobo’s departure, Arizona once again has 13 players listed on the roster.
