Marcus Rashford is close to making his stay at Barcelona permanent. According to Mundo Deportivo, the 30 million euro purchase option has been agreed with Manchester United and is set to be paid in three annual installments of 10 million. The remaining step is to adjust the salary and contract length to fit within La Liga’s financial fair play rules.
That last part is still a major step, so this is story is far from over. But if the report is true, the chances Rashford stays would skyrocket.
For his
part, the English forward seems fully committed. After his agents met with director of football Deco, Rashford posted on social media, a photo of himself captioned with a sand timer, in what some say was a wink to him staying. Since arriving at the Camp Nou, he has impressed under Hansi Flick, scoring 10 goals and contributing 11 assists, becoming one of the team’s most influential attackers.
Barcelona sees the transfer as fair value, especially in a market where quality wingers are expensive. Yet the club cannot ignore priorities elsewhere. Speaking with Culemanía, former treasurer Ferran Olivé, made it clear that the main target for the summer remains a striker. “Today it is publicly known that we are looking for a center forward. If we need anything else, they will tell us. And depending on how the team evolves, they may ask for more reinforcements in certain positions,” he said.
The theory is that if Barcelona spends a lot of money on a new number 9, the operation for Rashford could fall apart due to financial issues.
