Let’s take a step away from NFL Draft talk for a minute. We could use a break from arguing who is the best offensive tackle or defensive end in this year’s class.
Instead, let’s talk WrestleMania. It’s okay, I’m not secretly kidnapped. I promise.
WrestleMania is this weekend, and apparently it’s now a two-day event. We’ve already seen Detroit Lions Jahmyr Gibbs descend down in Las Vegas for the event, facing off against other celebrities in a streamed game of WWE 2K26.
Surely there are some wrestling
fans among our community. And if there are, you should definitely know about Cageside Seats, our sister site here at SB Nation that covers not only the WWE, but also other combat sports like UFC. As someone who knows the behind-the-scenes work they do over there, it’s top-notch. If you’re a wrestling or MMA fan, you’re missing out if you’re not part of the Cageside Seats community.
Okay, back to the Lions. Let’s combine wrestling and the Lions with today’s Question of the Day:
Which Lions player would you want as a tag-team partner?
My answer: Immediately, the mind goes to Penei Sewell. The intensity, the strength, the fearlessness. There is no question in my mind that Sewell could be a professional wrestler if he wanted to be—and that goes for all definitions of “wrestling.” Also, based on his pre-game speeches, he could also cut a ridiculous promo.
But wrestling, as the WWE defines it, is also about showmanship. It’s about having incredible athleticism, but flashing your personality, too. So I would be super intrigued about having someone like Jameson Williams in the ring. We know he can flip. Now, imagine that from the top rope. Add on his joyous attitude, and I think he would be electric in the ring.
Which Lions player would you like to see in the ring? Who would you gladly tag in for you? Share your thoughts in the comment section.
