Important reminder: Rumors are just that — rumors. None of this has been confirmed as fact, it’s just circulating around the pro wrestling rumor mill. We track rumor accuracy in a weekly feature called Rumor Look Back you can find here. Remember, take
it all with a grain of salt.
Rumors for the Day:
- Even though John Cena is retired now, WrestleVotes Radio said there are no plans for him to be in the WWE Hall of Fame Class of 2026. There is some speculation that this is because Stephanie McMahon is already announced as this year’s headliner, so WWE is saving Cena’s induction to headline a different year.
- Sources in WWE told Votes that they believe AJ Styles is not done wrestling “in some capacity.” However, nobody in WWE or AEW seems to know what his next move will be.
- In response to a rumor about Grayson Waller being the masked mystery man who attacked Bron Breakker at Royal Rumble in Saudi Arabia, Cory Hays of BodySlam.net said, “WWE expects [Seth] Rollins back before WrestleMania which is why they ran the angle.” Waller will not be part of the angle in kayfabe when the masked man is revealed.
- WWE’s current plan is for CM Punk to defend the world heavyweight championship against Finn Balor at Elimination Chamber in Chicago, per Fightful Select.
- Wrestling Observer Radio’s Dave Meltzer notes that Kenny Omega is “booked in Japan for a Capcom event” related to Street Fighter 6 during the week of AEW Revolution in mid-March, which raises doubts about his availability for that pay-per-view in Los Angeles.
- According to PW Insider, WWE held an all-hands-on-deck town hall meeting this week with all of its employees at WWE headquarters. Nick Khan and Triple H were among the hosts of the meeting, where there was praise for the performances of Oba Femi, Sol Ruca, and Je’Von Evans in the Royal Rumble matches in Saudi Arabia. They also put over how strong the CM Punk / Roman Reigns promo battle was on Raw to set up the main event of WrestleMania 42.
- Even though AEW began promoting Will Ospreay’s return on this week’s Dynamite, Meltzer says he won’t be back “anytime soon.” Meltzer heard that Ospreay will “start very light training this month,” with the goal of returning in time for All In London in late August. However, a return by then seems “too quick” given the nature of his neck surgery.
