A new 9-conference game era of SEC football is coming to the conference, and on Monday morning On3’s Chris Low reported the league’s new permanent opponents, and it’s a pretty nice draw for LSU.
LSU is
being paired with Arkansas, Ole Miss, and Texas A&M as its permanent opponents. The remaining teams will be split into groups of six that will rotate off and on, and under this new model each school will visit host and play every other SEC team over a four-year span. It should also be noted that the permanent opponents will be reevaluated every four years, so these are permanent…ish.
On the one hand, these probably aren’t the most entertaining opponents to be paired with, but competitively speaking it feels like LSU got a pretty sweet draw. I would also imagine that with Arkansas being a permanent opponent, that means the Battle for the Boot will go back to old the Black Friday spot.
Per Low, these are the permanent opponents across the SEC:
- Alabama: Auburn, Tennessee, Mississippi State
- Arkansas: Missouri, Texas, LSU
- Auburn: Georgia, Alabama, Vanderbilt
- Florida: Georgia, South Carolina, Kentucky
