Enzo Maresca has been fined £8000 by The Football Association, and also banned for one game after getting sent off against Liverpool for two yellow card offences.
The second yellow was given for leaving
his technical area (“acting in an improper manner”) — an understatement, given his sprint down the touchline to the corner flag — to celebrate Estêvão’s 95th-minute winner against the defending champions, while the first was shown to him earlier in the game after a bit of jawing between the two benches (it’s unclear if Maresca himself was actually involved, or if he was just trying to act as peacemaker).
Maresca will serve his ban this weekend as we take on Nottingham Forest, away, at the City Ground. He will be able to be with the team, including in the dressing room, but he won’t be allowing in the dugout and will have to sit in the stands somewhere.
This is Maresca’s second touchline ban as Chelsea manager. The first was also for a celebration, for Pedro Neto’s winner against Fulham late last season.
Also worth it.
