Jake Paul will have to prove size doesn’t matter when he steps into the ring with Anthony Joshua.
At Thursday’s official weigh-ins for Jake vs. Joshua, which goes down Friday at Kaseya Center in Miami, Joshua weighed in at 243.4 a whopping 27 pounds heavier than Paul at 216.4. Joshua is a two-time heavyweight champion, while Paul has never fought at heavier than 227 pounds.
Originally, it was Paul who was supposed to be the bigger man when he was scheduled to fight WBA lightweight champion Gervonta
“Tank” Davis on Nov. 14; however, following Davis being named in a civil lawsuit in which a former girlfriend accused him of battery and kidnapping among other charges, Davis was pulled from the fight and replaced by Joshua and the new bout was scheduled for Dec. 19.
Watch highlights of the main event weigh-ins below.
Paul (12-1), a YouTube star who committed to pro boxing in 2020, has typically compete at 200 pounds or below, though he weighed in at 227.2 pounds for a matchup with heavyweight legend Mike Tyson in November 2024. After eight rounds of forgettable action, Paul won a unanimous decision over Tyson.
Joshua (28-4) is coming off of a disappointing loss to Daniel Dubois. The former champion had won four straight fights—including a powerful knockout of UFC and PFL star Francis Ngannou—to earn his shot at Dubois’ IBF belt, but was finished in the fifth round.
Also of note on the main card, the legendary Anderson Silva takes on fellow former UFC champion Tyron Woodley in a 195-pound catchweight bout. Silva and Woodley, two of the most decorated MMA fighters of their respective eras, have both previously fought Paul, with Silva losing a decision, and Woodley going 0-2 against Paul including a loss via a devastating knockout.
For the co-main event, super featherweight champion Alycia Baumgardner weighed in at 129.2 pounds for her title defense against Canada’s Leila Beaudoin, who came in at the championship limit of 130 pounds.
