The Pittsburgh Steelers made one of the biggest moves of the offseason, trading for wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr. at the start of the new league year. With the addition of Pittman, the Steelers have two legitimate receivers at the top of the depth chart, which is something they haven’t had in a number of years.
It’s not a current Steelers receiver that made waves on Friday, though. Rather, a former Pittsburgh pass-catcher made headlines for teasing a comeback.
Chase Claypool posted a video on his
Tik Tok with the simple caption, “back soon.”
Claypool last appeared in an NFL game in 2023 while with the Miami Dolphins. That season, between stints with the Dolphins and Chicago Bears, he caught eight passes and a touchdown. He signed with the Buffalo Bills in May of 2024, but was released in the preseason due to a foot injury.
The Steelers drafted Claypool in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft, and his rookie season was one of the best in recent history for the franchise. He caught 62 passes for 873 yards and nine touchdowns. His breakout performance came against the Philadelphia Eagles where he caught three touchdowns and ran for one more. He caught 59 passes and two touchdowns in 2021, and was infamously traded to the Bears in 2022 in exchange for a second-round pick, which the Steelers then used to draft Joey Porter Jr.
