“Notorious” vs. “Gamebred” … in 2026?
In 2019, former two-time UFC Welterweight title challenger and original “BMF” Jorge Masvidal called out two-division champion Conor McGregor for a fight — but it never gained traction. UFC President Dana White repeatedly said McGregor was too small for 170 pounds, and the matchup faded.
Since then, the two have traded barbs
, but nothing came of it. Now, six years later, that could be changing.Masvidal, retired since 2023, has been teasing a fight for the historic
UFC White House card. With McGregor currently without a confirmed opponent — sorry, Michael Chandler — the stars might finally be aligning.
“The White House card for me is everything. I want to be on this card very bad,” Masvidal told Ariel Helwani. “There’s a lot of speculation going on. We’re talking to the UFC. Ali [Abdelaziz] is talking to Dana, and Ali is talking to Hunter [Campbell]. I don’t know what’s going to happen, I just leave it in God’s hands. I pray to God to get me on this card, it’s the White House.”
When asked directly about a potential matchup with McGregor at the White House, Masvidal added: “My boy Ali is putting in the FaceTime. He’s basically neighbors with Dana and Hunter. He’s getting in their face. It’s not looking bad right now. I can’t say too much more, but it’s not looking bad right now. They’re talking, dialogue has been opened, there is communication, and we will keep that communication going.”
While this fight is still in the very early ‘hypothetical’ stages, it makes sense from a storyline perspective, given the history between the two fighters. UFC officials have said the card won’t be booked until after Feb. 1, 2026, so any potential fight is still months away.
It’s also possible that Masvidal is keeping his name in the conversation while angling for any fight at the White House.
What’s wild is that Masvidal hasn’t won a fight since defeating Nate Diaz for the inaugural BMF title in 2019, while McGregor’s last win came in Jan. 2020 against Donald Cerrone — meaning McGregor has a more recent win.
Maybe the UFC head honcho will give an update about this fight at UFC 324 this weekend.
