The match is set as Tigres Femenil and Club América Femenil will meet in the final to see who will be crowned Apertura 2025 champion. The Amazonas have the chance to win their seventh title while the Aguilas
will battle for their third trophy.
In order for Tigres to make it to the final they had to face Juárez in the quarter-finals and then Cruz Azul in the semi-finals. In the quarters against Juárez, the Amazonas did not look like the team everyone has been accustomed to seeing. Tigres has dominated the league over the years as they have tallied up six titles which has drawn interest from some of the best players in the league and even the world. Over the years their star-studded roster has dominated the league but over the last year they had not drawn out fear like they used to and their liguilla run has proved it. Against Juárez they only scored one goal over two games even though in the past they had scored multiple goals over the course of two games. Their midfield was able to maintain control but their forwards were only able to convert one of their many chances. That was enough to make it to the next round. Against Cruz Azul they struggled in the first game. They drew 1-1 and it could have been anyone’s game in the second leg. This was where they finally found their footing and the dominant Tigres arrived. Not only did they maintain possession but they were able to convert their chances as Jenni Hermoso and Diana Ordoñez scored two goals. Cruz Azul scored a goal in the 90th minute but that was too late as the Amazonas qualified for yet another final.
Club América made another final after having a dominant liguilla over the course of the quarter-finals and the semi-finals. They first faced off against Monterrey and while the first leg ended in a draw, they completely dominated the second leg as they outscored Rayadas 5-0. Over the past couple of years Sporting Director Claudia Carrion made it her mission to heavily invest in the women’s team and all her hard work paid off. They brought in high caliber signings that have helped the Aguilas qualify for multiple finals over the last few years. After advancing to the semi-finals, the Aguilas learned they were once again going to face rivals Chivas in the liguilla. In the first leg they won 2-0 but the score could have been a lot worse as they missed countless chances in front of goal. In the second leg they showed their dominance once again as they defeated Chivas 2-0. Chivas has always been hailed as a ‘grande’ but they haven’t looked like one in recent years. The last time they won a title Sporting Director Nelly Simon and club owner Amuary Vergara promised continued investment in the team but that had been a lie as it is obvious, with the state of the team, that the women’s side has lacked investment for years. It seems as if Nelly Simon has been more interested in promoting her book, 1576 Escalones para llegar a la Meta: Una historia de Vida y Resiliencia, than doing her job as Sporting Director of Chivas. Hopefully after this loss the necessary changes will be made to bring Chivas back to their former glory.
Tigres and Club América are not strangers and have met multiple times in finals. Tigres has the opportunity to write league history once again while América can write their own club history with a win. While the Amazonas have proved over time just how dominant they are, they haven’t been so over the last year while the Aguilas have grown. If América plays like they have all season long they will be able to stop Tigres from continuing to write history.
