Fresh off their first win of the year, the New England Patriots will travel to Florida in Week 3. The Jacksonville Jaguars, who, like the Patriots, are the owners of a 1-1 record two games in, are the next opponent on their regular season schedule.

Jaguars key stats
The Jaguars are the current leaders in the AFC South and their numbers through two games show that balance has been the key for them. Obviously, two games is too small a sample to draw any definitive conclusions, but the early
trends are showing a team capable of putting pressure on its opponents on both offense and defense.
The Jaguars offense has been one of the most efficient in the NFL so far, both on the ground and through the air. It also has managed to limit turnovers: besides one Trevor Lawrence interception — albeit a costly one — the team has held onto the ball. The defense, meanwhile, has taken it away three times already.
Speaking of the defense, it has performed well but not quite on the same level as the offense so far. Still, the unit very much should present a challenge for a Patriots team whose own offense has yet to find consistency this year.
Jaguars 2026 season
As noted above, Jacksonville is currently 1-1. The team started its season with a dominant win over the Browns, before falling to the Broncos is a defensive affair.

Week 2: 20-13 loss at Denver Broncos (1-1)
The Jaguars’ story this year is somewhat similar to the Patriots’; they also could easily be 2-0 had they not squandered a 10-point lead. In Jacksonville’s case, that happened on Sunday in Denver with the aforementioned Trevor Lawrence INT a critical play in turning a 13-3 lead midway through the third quarter into a 20-13 defeat by the final whistle.

Based on EPA per play (0.228), Trevor Lawrence has been a top-10 quarterback in the NFL so far this year. His traditional stats also look the part: he has completed 35 of 52 pass attempts (67.3%) for 434 yards with four touchdowns and an interception; he also has been sacked three times in 56 dropbacks.
Lawrence’s favorite target so far has been Parker Washington, who has seen 18 passes thrown his way. The fourth-year wide receiver has caught 12 of them for 181 yards and a touchdown, making him one of four Jaguars to haul in scoring passes this season. The others are tight end Brenton Strange, old friend Jakobi Meyers, and Josh Cameron, the team’s nominal WR4 behind Washington, Meyers and part-time perimeter starter Brian Thomas Jr.
On the ground, Bhayshul Tuten has been the clear main man: he has carried the ball 28 times for 131 yards and a touchdown. Also part of the mix is Travis Hunter, the ultra-versatile cornerback/receiver hybrid who has touched the ball twice for 11 yards in his 10 snaps on offense.
Hunter, however, has been mostly used as a cornerback this season. He is part of a pass defense that has given up only two passing touchdowns all year and has seen two players — nickel back Jourdan Lewis and off-ball linebacker Foyesade Oluokun — register interceptions. In addition, the unit has five sacks to its name, with 1.5 each belonging to starting edges Josh Hines-Allen and Travon Walker.
In general, the edge is one of the strengths of this Jaguars team. Hines-Allen and Walker are a formidable 1-2 at the position, with Dennis Gardeck a disruptive rotational option.
While we are on the topic of weapons, let’s not forget Cam Little. The third-year man is quite accurate — 89.7% field goal rate in his career — but his standout trait is his range: he holds the NFL’s all-time record for the longest field goal, a 68-yarder last season. He also made a 70-yard field goal in the 2025 preseason.

The most notable name on the Jaguars’ reserve lists is Patrick Mekari, the team’s starting right guard. He is slated to return later during the season, but will miss Sunday’s game because of the back injury that landed him on IR in the first place in late August.

Together with Mike Vrabel and Chicago’s Ben Johnson, Liam Coen was one of three first-year coaches to lead his team to the playoffs in 2025. Despite the. success, he managed to retain most of his staff — including all three coordinators. The biggest changes were adding a run game coordinator on offense (Brian Picucci) and a pass game coordinator on defense (Mathieu Araujo).
