It took Robin Fellhauer just under nine seconds to score against Bayern Munich. The new fastest goal in Bundesliga history came off the back of a heavy touch and sloppy clearance from Manuel Neuer — the first of two errors that Augsburg would take advantage of.
Manuel Neuer was also involved in another big error in the second half, leading to Augsburg’s second goal. Neuer spilled Calvin Brackelmann’s low-driven shot right into the path of Rodrigo Ribeiro, sneaking past Alphonso Davies, who was caught
ball-watching.
It’s safe to say it wasn’t a peak performance from Neuer. But Vincent Kompany isn’t worried.
“I was actually looking at the other side of the pitch when it happened,” recalled Kompany (via @iMiaSanMia). “I know how it is to be a player, it happens. If it were a 20-year-old goalkeeper, then as a coach you have work to do with him. But Manu is as old as me; he knows how to deal with the situation. We always stand together as a team. The game is now over and we can’t change it. Only the next game counts now”
Neuer’s mistake comes at an interesting time. Urbig is coming off the back of two impressive performances in goal for the German national team amidst calls for him to take up a starting berth for Bayern, too. However, for the moment, Kompany seems adamant to back his number one.
