Vincent Kompany has made it clear that he sees squad rotation as more than simply giving players a rest. The Bayern Munich manager has described it as “competition,” with different players pushing one another for starting spots as the season progresses.
With so many fixtures arriving in a short period, keeping the squad fresh is going to be essential.
The 2-1 victory over SV Elversberg offered another example of Kompany managing his squad. Bayern Munich were not at their best during the first half,
and Kompany acknowledged afterward that his team lacked the intensity and focus he expects. At the same time, the ability to rotate players gives him options when the team needs more energy.
There are also some interesting selection battles developing throughout the squad. Young players such as Lennart Karl are getting opportunities to make an impact, while established stars have to continue earning their places. Michael Olise’s ability to operate in multiple attacking positions adds another layer of flexibility, while Bayern Munich also have options across midfield and defense.
The biggest question is whether Kompany can find the right balance. Too much rotation can affect chemistry and consistency, but relying on the same starting XI every match could leave key players exhausted later in the season.
So far, Bayern Munich are getting results even when performances have not been perfect. The question for supporters is whether Kompany’s rotation strategy is helping build a stronger, deeper team — or whether he should settle on a more consistent lineup?
