Marc Bernal has been called up to the Spain Under-21 squad despite only managing 21 minutes of football for Barcelona since returning from ACL surgery.
The midfielder is on the list and has been promised
game time over the international break by manager David Gordo.
“He’s a player we know very well, from younger categories. He’s a very important player for us, and we want to see him during this training camp and give him minutes, which will be very good for him,” he told a press conference.
“He’s going to help the team be competitive. It’s very good for him and for us that he can be here.
“If he recovers his best form after his injury, he’ll be very important for the Spanish national team, and now it’s our turn to give him that reinforcement and invest in players who have already had a great run with us.”
Barcelona have been careful with Bernal since he was passed fit again and have been understandably taking things slowly with the 18-year-old.
He’ll now link up with the Spain squad for matches against Norway and Finland.
