Top Pitching Performance of the Week
The Opening Day pitching staff earns this as a team award, as they struck out an MLB-record-tying 20 batters in Milwaukee’s 14-2 win over the White Sox. The game was anchored by flamethrower Jacob Misiorowski, who struck out a club Opening Day record 11 batters in five innings in the win.
Top Hitting Performance of the Week
Christian Yelich is off to a red-hot start, as he went 5-for-9 in his two starts entering Sunday’s series finale. Coming off the bench in the eighth
inning, Yelich hit the go-ahead homer to give Milwaukee a 9-7 lead that they wouldn’t relinquish. Overall, a great opening series for Milwaukee’s most veteran player.
Injury Notes & Roster Moves
- After announcing the team’s Opening Day roster on Wednesday afternoon, the Brewers immediately had a few injury surprises. Jackson Chourio went down with a hand fracture tied to his time at the World Baseball Classic. He’s expected to miss 2-4 weeks, and outfielder Blake Perkins was recalled to take his spot on the roster.
- Ahead of the team’s second game on Saturday, first baseman Andrew Vaughn went down with an injury of his own, a hamate fracture that will keep him out 4-6 weeks. Catcher Jeferson Quero was called up to replace him and made his MLB debut on Sunday.
- Right-hander Quinn Priester had “an encouraging bullpen session” on Saturday and will repeat once more before traveling to Arizona to face hitters. He’s expected to be out until at least late April as he ramps back up.
