The Washington Commanders season takes a pause as they enter their Week 7 bye. The team just lost to the San Francisco 49ers on Monday Night Football, dropping their record to 1-4-1 for the season. Dan Quinn got behind the mic for his weekly “Tell the Truth Monday Tuesday” and spoke to reporters who were still traveling back home from California.
Terry McLaurin’s season is over after suffering a torn patellar tendon in the first quarter on a non-contact play. It’s a brutal injury that has a long recovery
time, and casts a bigger question on McLaurin’s future in Washington after the new deal he signed last year. Quinn said the team would rely on the receivers on the roster, but they’ve already lost Jaylin Lane for the season to a broken ankle.
The Commanders can’t play consistently throughout a game and that was evident again with Monday night’s tale of two halves. Jayden Daniels and the Commanders offense couldn’t get much done in the first half, but the script was flipped after halftime, almost ending in a comeback win for Washington. The defense also got a boost when Mike Evans left the game due to a lingering Achilles injury, and the 49ers offense wasn’t the same for the remainder of the game.
Quinn also said the offensive line hasn’t been playing up to the standards the team sets for themselves. He was asked if continued poor play and penalties could lead to change, and he said absolutely. Quinn also wants to see more explosive plays from an offense that has done well protecting the ball. Several big plays have also been wiped off the board due to penalties this season.
